Passive Mandy: Learning My Own Rhythm

Sometimes, a name finds you in the most unexpected ways.
The other day, one of my best friends sent me a voice message while she was eating. The first word came out sounding more like “Passive” instead of “bestie,” and the next word sounded like “Mandy.” When I listened back, I couldn’t help but laugh; Passive Mandy had a funny little ring to it.
Now, to be clear, my friend didn’t actually call me that! It was just a funny accident in the sound of the message. But still, the phrase stuck with me.
And the more I thought about it, the more I realized that “Passive Mandy” actually represented something deeper.
Shedding Old Versions of Myself
Lately, I’ve been in a quieter, more reflective season. A time of reevaluating, observing, and allowing myself to see things differently. One of the biggest parts of this process has been shedding the versions of me that I outgrew.
The version that moved her body to fit what society told her was “healthy.”The one who pushed harder than she needed to.The one who believed that slowing down meant falling behind.
I’m learning to release all of that and move into something softer, more self-honoring.
Redefining What “Healthy” Means
Movement looks different for me now.
These days, I spend about five hours a week outdoors walking, stretching, playing, exploring; just moving because I want to. After that, I rest. I take it easy until my body tells me it’s ready again.
Instead of judging myself for not doing more, I’m learning to honor where I am and what my body needs in this season. Because that’s what true health is...listening, trusting, and responding with care.
And honestly? It feels good to finally move because it brings me joy, not because it checks a box or fits a mold.
Finding Humor and Grace in Growth
That silly name, Passive Mandy, became a gentle teacher. It reminded me that growth doesn’t always have to be serious or heavy. Sometimes, it’s about laughing at yourself while you figure things out.
Healing and self-discovery can feel tender and raw at times, but they can also be full of light moments, humor, and small wins.
Every person’s journey will look different. Every rhythm, every body, every season is unique. And as long as we’re not causing harm to ourselves or others there’s no “wrong” way to heal, grow, or move forward.
Honoring My Rhythm
So here’s to Passive Mandy. The version of me that’s learning, laughing, moving at her own pace, and feeling lighter with every step.
May you, too, find your own rhythm. May you trust your timing, honor your body, and celebrate progress, no matter how gentle or unconventional it looks.
And may you always remember: sometimes, the universe gives us funny names just to help us see how far we’ve come. ✨
